China Glaze Avant Garden Collection Part I - Blooming Brights Swatches

Hi everyone!

Today I have my first Spring collection purchase to show y'all. My beauty supply store had these in early, so of course the hoarder in me bought them all. Spring is one of my favourite seasons, the only thing I could do without is the rain!

Anyhow, today I'm going to feature the first half of the collection - the Blooming Brights!

Budding Romance: China Glaze's official description of this is a mossy green. I agree with this description, but this colour also reminds me of kelp! I'm a bit on the fence about this one... I find it really interesting, but I don't really feel like a love it. Might be useful for nail art though! The formula on this one was alright. It has a bit of that squishy jelly-ness going on. Pictured is 3 coats.

Mimosa's Before Manis: That apostrophe is there on the bottom of my bottle, and it does bother me a bit. Other than that, this colour is really nice. I'd describe it as a pink-y peach. It's one of the shimmers in this collection, but unfortunately in my photos it's not really that obvious. I found that it dries a bit on the matte/satin side so pictured above is with 3 coats with top coat. The rest of the formula was good.

Passion for Petals: China Glaze describes this one as a "bright salmon-pink". My picture makes it look a bit more on the fuchsia side of the spectrum though. I found the formula of this one to be a bit on the thick side, so the next time I use it I'll definitely thin it out a bit. Pictured above is 2 coats.

Fancy Pants: I LOVE this one. My picture of this is horrible though since my lamp made it look like a royal blue. This picture was taken during a short period of direct sunlight - it looks a bit lighter than it is in the bottle. I'd describe this polish as being a dusty blurple with pink and purple shimmer. I love it. The formula was great, I used 2 coats for opacity. If I had to pick only one polish from this collection - this is the one.

Snap My Dragon: This one is like a super bright red with some pretty subtle shimmer. In the bottle it reminds me of Cult Nails' Evil Queen with a smidgen more blue. This one dried a bit matte too, so pictured above is 2 coats with top coat.

Sunday Funday: This polish is pretty too, although I feel like it probably has a bunch of really close relatives out there already. I'd describe this one as a really vibrant sky blue (China Glaze describes it as 'bright blue'). The formula on this one was good - I used 2 coats.

So, what do you guys think? My absolute favourite from this set (and possibly the whole collection) is Fancy Pants. I do feel like there are a lot of pinks in this collection, but I guess that's something that just happens fairly often and I should really be used to it by now. In terms of variability, I'm definitely enjoying this collection more than the Glitz Bitz n' Pieces collection.

I'll be posting the other half of the collection (the pastels!) tomorrow. I'll make sure to update this post with a link when that post goes live!

Thanks for reading, and I hope y'all have a great weekend!

  1. I love these!! I already have lots of pastels and don't wear them so often, so I am glad China Glaze put out these brights as part of the spring collection!

  2. I'm not convinced yet....the colors don't look very spectacular. I like Snap my Dragon though, the name...and the red really are fitting!

    1. I definitely think that some of these have some close dupes out there. Snap my Dragon is probably my favourite name out of the bunch. I like how some of them are named after flowers (it's a garden after all), but I get pretty lost for some of the others (Sunday Funday? I don't get it!) lol :D

  3. I love that warm green, I think its so pretty and I can't remember seeing another one like it. It will look great with other spring colours...pinks, purples, yellows etc. I think I'll be getting that, and Fancy Pants- I love it too.
